Before I get into the topic at hand...I have to mention I'm still here XD Even tho looking at this I'm reminded that I have been slacking over here since I see its over a year from my last post XD.
Onto the actual topic! The Total Eclipse that came over on 4/8/24 was an AMAZING experience. I was lucky enough to live toward the center of the path and have an ideal viewing location and we got wicked lucky with the weather and had a warm cloudless day that gave us a comfortable unobstructed view! Another benefit was living here meant I did not have to participate in the chaos and insane traffic out there. Our town has an estimated 800-1100 residents and they say that 10,000 people or more came to town to experience the eclipse up here too. I could have probably got a few more rounds of brackets off and got a few more photos but I had to take a moment to look around and experience the eclipse also...as totality was reached it was like new years eve...As it grew darker the tweety birds stopped making any noise the street lights came on and pretty much everybody in the area was either in their home to avoid traffic or sitting and watching the eclipse also meaning there was essentially nobody on the roads...it was silent...then I could hear the crowds cheering and yelling at the school, store parking lot, and the park. It felt like when the ball tells us its a new year and the crowds all celebrate at the same time...then people in a couple different directions started setting off fireworks XD. I was able to chat with somebody who had come up to photograph the event and he gave me few good pointers settings and any information was greatly appreciated. This is the first time I've tried this type of photography and I had...and still have...a lot to learn about photographing these types of events. Overall I think it went pretty well. The unfortunate part is you don't get many opportunities to easily photograph a Total Eclipse so its not like I can go out and practice again next week XD. More research and another attempt will happen again one day. It would be a fun vacation at some point I feel. One big change I would make is to turn off motion lights before it gets dark so they don't hit you with a bunch of light while settings are set to the dark...I lost a few seconds to this but luckily I had a step stool nearby and was able to quickly hop up and turn off the light then go back to taking pictures...I would also probably take off the filter a little sooner. I waited until it was a total eclipse first and missed a couple chances of photos while it was entering totality. Something random worth noting also...even tho there were 10,000 or however many people up here to our little town in the middle of nowhere I am absolutely amazed with how they left our town...and by that I mean I expected there to be trash left around in random places but town seems to have been taken care of and from what I've seen they seem to have respected the carry in - carry out! Wicked happy and impressed with all the people who came to visit and didnt trash the place. We get a lot of tourism / vacation visitors through the summer and there is often trash dumped in places it shouldn't be because people be peopling and there were wayyyy more people here for the Eclipse and way less trash left around.
